Site Navigation

Welcome to the new dynamic Alpha Omega Dental Chapter and its new web site. The site is still a work in progress so we welcome your feedback.

The Upcoming Events tab will describe the functions and activities planned for the coming year. It will also be the place where you can register for the next event on the calendar, or at least find the method to register for upcoming events.

The Past Events page will describe the some of the educational opportunities and fun meetings we have experienced in the recent past. It is where memorable photos can be posted to remind us of those who have served before us and enjoyed the camaraderie of AO events. If you have some photos from past events please send them to the current chapter president, secretary, or webmaster, as identified in Contact Us.

It is important to recognize those companies and organizations that help us achieve our goals. On the Sponsors page we identify those companies that have provided financial support to our chapter.

The Officers tab allows you to identify the current board members, as well as those who have served in the recent past. For those issues that need addressing, or notifications of important information, please contact these people so that the chapter can respond appropriately.

We can post our individual accomplishments on the Members section. What have our member's been doing in community service, support of professional organizations, and advancing the profession through providing continuing education or publications. This is also the place where we can honor those who have received special recognition.

On the About AO page the history of the organization is reviewed. We need help from our long standing chapter members to reconstruct the story of the Denver alumni chapter. The Alpha Omega International history is currently on the page so that you can see the heritage of this organization to which you belong.

For immediate contact information concerning the Denver Alumni Chapter, look in the top right hand corner under Contact Us. Links to the Alpha Omega International, the local student chapter Beta Iota, and other related organizations can be found on the right hand side of most of the pages.

This coming year, 2009-2010, we will have an exciting set of programs that you will find both professionally educational and entertaining. There is a very special opportunity that you should find very appealing especially in these economic times. In September, we welcome Steve Anderson for a full day seminar featuring motivational concepts and team building ideas that will help you grow your practice and reverse the economic impact of the past year. This meeting will be open to the dental community and there will be a significant registration fee for non-AO members to attend, but with your paid membership dues, you will get in free. You are encouraged to bring your dental staff with you (at a nominal fee) for this team building experience. This is only this first of six outstanding presentations we have planned for this upcoming year, and as a member, your entrance to all these events is free, These programs will continue to offer you opportunities for professional growth while enjoying socializing in some of Denver?s finest restaurants.

And we are now documenting our programs so that we can offer you, through our association with AO International, CERP recognized programs. CERP recognition becomes more important in the coming year with the new requirements for maintaining good standing as a member of the Colorado Dental Association. These programs will also be accepted for credit towards your AGD Fellowship and Mastership. The alumni chapter will continue to cultivate a closer alliance with the student chapter, Beta Iota, at the University of Colorado, School of Dental Medicine. For a number of years we have supported student attendance at our alumni programs at a much reduced rate. Last year we provided financial support for their student programs, and we will continue to do so this year. It is important for alumni to provide support and be role models that enrich the experience of these future dentists. At our alumni meetings we have the opportunity to not only socialize with old friends but to also make new ones, aiding in the transition of these students and recent graduates into our dental community, Networking is important to helping these new members of our community achieve success.

We cannot ignore our roots in the Jewish community. It is a responsibility that becomes ever more important during these times. There are major challenges at home and abroad. Discrimination of all types whether against Jews or other minorities does not abate. We must continue to support efforts to thwart these attacks on our humanity. And we must continue to foster generosity and good feelings among those who need that support. Your participation in community service and your financial contribution to the Alpha Omega Foundation help in this effort. We also invite you to check out our new AO website. The new site design, thanks to the Beta Iota member, Erik Koskinen, is more attractive and user friendly, and provides much information including updates on meetings, social activities, community service, Tzedukah, your board members, as well as links to the rest of the Alpha Omega organization. We are one of the few chapters of the AO that can boast of having its own web site and we encourage you to take a few minutes to visit our site and see what we have in store for you this year. Invite your friends and former AO fraters to check us out online, or in person and feel the energy that AO is generating with challenging programs and fresh ideas and new technology, while preserving our venerable traditions.

One of the opportunities on this site will be for you to personally record for all to acknowledge any community service that you offer. Any time you offer your time and professional acumen to supporting the dental world, providing community service, and especially in helping to provide dental care to those in need, please put this information on the site. We wish to recognize those who give back.

There are ambitious plans and opportunities in the coming year. I wish to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are on the board for their time and effort. Vice President Paul Bottone is the best of right hand men. His vast experience in this organization and others, and his contacts in the Denver area give him the background to provide superior advice as well as accomplish goals set for this organization. I would not and could not properly serve as your president without his help. For years Secretary/Treasurer Ray Pohl has been the unrecognized worker that has kept this organization a well-oiled, functional entity. He is the man who has always been there as the contact person for information, checking you in at the meetings, or stepping up to run the meeting when necessary. Since the start of this administration he has already helped us to be in compliance with new IRS regulations for non-profit organizations. He will be collecting the documentation that will allow us to provide CERP and AGD recognized courses. I thank him for what he has done and continues to do for us. Our immediate Past President Ian Topelson continues to be a valued source of support and advice. The rest of your board deserves recognition for their service. Cliff Litvak, the long-time heart of this chapter and Past-President of AO International, Lee Weisbard, Mike Frisch, Bob Teitlebaum, Ron Brown, and Jeff Balter will continue to contribute to the leadership of this chapter for the coming year and I thank them all for their help and their work.

This is YOUR chapter. You will get out of it what you put into it. We are working hard to make AO an active part of the dental community, as well as a vital part of the Jewish community, both locally and internationally. We urge you to participate at meetings, enjoy the camaraderie, and help support both the community and the world we live in. Such participation will be rewarding for you and make your membership a very worthwhile investment. I encourage you to encourage your friends who are not members to join, or rejoin us and help our organization grow. The greater the membership the more we can achieve as a fraternal chapter.

Thank you for this opportunity to share some of the plans for this coming year. I look forward to seeing you soon, and I wish all of you a good year.

Sincerely,

Sheldon M. Newman, DDS, MS
