Dr. Gary Severance has had years of experience as a lecturer in the dental arts and dental materials. He lectured on the topic. Alpha Omega worked with Jason Krause of Henry Schein, to arrange for the unit to be functioning at the meeting so that a demonstration and hands-on opportunity was provided. Pearls of Dentistry

Dr. Newman's: Don't Shrink Away from Restorative Success! Radically New Technology in Composite Resin Restorative Materials The newest catch-phrase in composite advertising is ?low shrinkage?. The lower shrinkage causes less stress on the bonding to the tooth. Dental manufacturers have tweaked the same old composite technologies for the last decade but have reached the limits of what the tweaking can accomplish and yet less shrinkage is still need. Finally there are two new, radically different technologies that have been introduced to dentistry that drastically reduce the shrinkage of the composite restoration; one developed locally at the University of Colorado, School of Dental Medicine and marketed by Septodont, and the other developed and marketed by 3M/Espe. There are major differences between these two approaches and their chemistries. Because of the positive potential that these new technologies provide, it is important to understand how these materials can affect clinical technique and improve clinical results, even possibly decreasing the incidence of post-operative sensitivity. These ramifications and what they mean to the practicing dentist will be discussed quickly so that dentists can take advantage of these opportunities to improve their restorative practice.

Dr. Gurinsky's: His talk was on treating mucogingival defects using a novel product, dehydrated amniotic membrane. The product is not on the market yet, but should be soon. The product is an alternative to taking tissue from the palate on the patient and has shown excellent healing and improvement in tissue thickness.

Issues Impacting Health Care Professionals in the State of Colorado

These presentations offered the opportunity for two highly effective speakers to discuss the issues in the upcoming election (fall 2008) that will affect the health care professional. It was not a debate format, but each speaker presented their reasons to support or the rationale for their concerns about the ballot issues and amendments in the state that the dentists would be voting out just a few weeks later. There were abundant questions.
